DescriptionFor several decades, the Victorian Railways' (VR) broad-gauge Western Main Line was a magnet for legions of Australian rail photographers, who, in particular, concentrated their efforts on the 107kms of track between suburban Sunshine and the regional city of Ballarat. Diversity in topography and scenery, signalling and safeworking practices, motive power and trains, plus heavy traffic volumes, all contributed to its popularity. In this latest offering from Trackside Publications, Rails Through The Marsh, companion volume to Up The Straight published in 2014, we provide yet another glimpse of a variety of trains that plied the rails in this busy corridor during a period of modernisation and rationalisation between the years of 1980 and 1995. |
